Why water jet cutting is ideal for cutting titanium…
Advantages and significance of waterjet Cutting titanium
Many industries require titanium to be profile cut, we have cut titanium for a vast array of industries including robotics, aerospace, automotive racing, UAV and knife making.
The most common thicknesses we cut are in between the 1-12mm range but this doesn’t mean we are limited to these sizes.
The biggest advantage of waterjet cutting over laser cutting or machining with a mill is that there is no heat introduced, when you cut with a waterjet cutter there is no need to re-heat treat the material.
Why use a water jet for this purpose?
Titanium is very sensitive to heat. Cutting with a waterjet cutter introduces next to no heat in the cutting process.
- Save time with fast efficient cutting speeds
- Maintain a dust-free work environment
- Can be cut into different patterns and designs
- Reliable safe alternative to plasma, laser and other CNC machining processes
Commonly Asked Questions & Answers
Why is Waterjet cutting titanium is better than milling titanium?
Waterjet cutting is substantially faster than milling, with milling you are required to slow down the RPM to reduce heat build up. When milling titanium you can get “gumming” This is where the titanium sticks to the cutting tool.
How thick can you cut titanium?
We can cut very thick Titanium. We haven’t had the chance but theoretically could cut up to 150mm thick Titanium. If you have a job that needs thick Titanium cut we can do a test cut for you.
Do I need secondary finishing of titanium cut with the water jet?
Most of our customers use waterjet cut titanium as the finished product. However if you want to secondary finish there has been no heat introduced so it wont be any harder than it was before cutting.
Can you cut Titanium ring?
Yes we have cut Titanium rings previously
