Carbon Fibre & Composite Cutting with Waterjet: What You Need to Know
Waterjet cutting is one of the safest and most precise ways to cut composite materials — and at MRC Industries, we’ve spent years fine-tuning our process. From carbon fibre prepreg to phenolic laminate and Kevlar, our workshop in Bayswater has handled it all.
Composite Materials We Regularly Cut
We’ve successfully cut a wide range of technical composites, including:
- Carbon fibre prepreg sheets
- Composite laminate panels
- Fibreglass
- Kevlar
- Phenolic board
We haven’t found a composite we couldn’t cut.
Who We Cut For
While we began with motorsport, most of our composite work now comes from custom drone manufacturers and defence contractors. We continue to work with teams like Garry Rogers Motorsport and Brad Jones Racing, but also support high-spec clients like XM2, DefendTex, and Rheinmetall.

Why Waterjet Beats Laser or Routing for Composites
- No heat-affected zones – preserves the structural integrity of the material
- No toxic dust – unlike CNC routing, which can release dangerous fibres
- Minimal delamination – our calibrated nozzles and drills reduce internal stress
- 2mm holes? No problem – we can often cut extremely small, clean features depending on material and layout

Our Setup and What to Expect
We take extra care when cutting composites. Our team uses custom fixtures to secure the material on all sides, and we calibrate our nozzles and drills precisely to minimise delamination and deliver clean results. For delicate or high-value materials, we recommend applying a protective film to reduce handling marks.
We’re also happy to review and proof your file layout before cutting, especially if fibre orientation or sheet layout is critical.
You can expect tolerances around ±0.2mm, with tighter tolerances available on request. We typically work with sheets up to 1200x2400mm, though larger can be accommodated. Turnaround is generally within two weeks, depending on the volume of parts. And to protect your material and quality, your carbon is only used for your job — never batched with others.

What We Commonly Cut
- Drone chassis and bracketry
- Racing components
- UAV and camera platform plates
If your part requires directional fibre orientation, let us know — we can align it and provide layout proofs before cutting.
Supplied or Sourced?
Most customers supply their own composite sheets. For specialty materials, we work with Topstage Composites to help source exactly what you need.
