Why you should choose Waterjet for your next profile…
Why you should consider waterjet cutting for your next profile cutting job. Please be sure to see our FAQs & as always we’re happy to field your questions, simply contact us!
Cutting with Waterjet is a cold process
Unlike plasma or laser, waterjet cutting doesn’t melt the material away. It relies on the high-pressure water and garnet which is abrasive to push the material away very similar to erosion. This means that there are no hardened areas, no warping or twisting and no compromises to specialist materials like Aluminium, specialty steels, chromoly etc.
Waterjet cutting is the most environmentally friendly way to profile cut
Plasma and laser cutters rely on industrial gasses like Nitrogen, carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen. Waterjet cuts with filtered tap water and Garnet which is a naturally forming abrasive. Another great thing about waterjet cutting is no toxic or harmful gasses are released when cutting, meaning our machine operators don’t have to breath in harsh fumes.
Waterjet cutting is truly versatile
Because waterjet cutting simply pushes away the focused area of material in front of the cutting head it can cut nearly any material. We regularly cut Porcelain tiles, Stone for paving, Aluminium, Titanium, Steel, Brass, Copper, and composites including Carbon fibre and Kevlar but have also cut Gold, Silver, Bronze, Foam, Rubber for automation mining applications and just about anything else.
Different shapes can be cut with a water jet machine from simple shapes to more complex designs made by computer software and CAD drawings.
How thick can you cut with waterjet?
Waterjet can cut a huge range of thicknesses. The thickest we have cut is 200mm Aluminium, that needed to be cut down into smaller blocks to then be milled into its final shape. This is a great way to save on machining costs/time. Like all machining processes its all about working out whats best for you. In contrast the thinnest material that we cut is .2mm Silver for a jewellery designer (as seen below).
Can I have different quality cuts for different parts?
Yes. MRC Industries understands that not all parts require the same tolerance or edge finish. We can help you select what quality cut you need for each job, saving you money and making sure you get the finish you require. If you want to know more about the different qualities check out our waterjet quality vs cost post.
